Jubbah City

Jubbah city is located 100 km to the north west of hail city the capital of hail regain. Jubbah city is surrounded with mountains where drawings are located as well as sand dunes.

Geographical significance

Jubbah is marsh land (old lake) surrounded with the sand dunes of Alnafoud Alkabeer desert. The south and west area is a chain of sedimentary and sandy mountains. 

Archaeological significance

Jubbah is one of the most important and oldest sites of rock carvings in Saudi Arabia. The area is full of carvings and drawings that are spread all over the site in surrounded mountains. These carvings go back to four main periods. The first period is the oldest and most significant period which is the one called “Early Jubbah”. This period goes back to 7 thousand years ago. The carving pattern of this period is famous for cow figures with long horns and humans in the form of sticks or uncompleted bodies. The second period is the one called Thamudic period which is famous of art drawings in rocks. The Thamudic period goes back to 1500 to 2500 years from now.  The third period is the Arabian period which is famous for its human and camel rider figures. A fourth period was discovered lately, it goes back to the Islamic Ages represented by the Kufi inscriptions found on some of the fallen stones of Um-Sanman mountain. Most of these inscriptions are versus of Quran and supplications, one of which is dated to the month of Rajab 147HD.

One of the famous figures who visited the region is Lady Anne where she was interested in exporting Arabian horses to the west.
